What Is Expected From
A Person Who Has A Legal Secretary Job
If you want to advance your career as an administrative
assistant, why not take on a legal secretary job.
Legal secretaries give administrative support to lawyers,
paralegals and legal executives. They are often tasked to help
with the everyday tasks of running the legal firm.
Actually, a legal secretary is no different from any other
administrative assistant. She or he is expected to type, file,
answer phone inquiries, make appointments, keep records of
costs and petty cash, deliver and collect documents and make
coffee for the bosses. However, the differences come with the
specialization of knowing legal jargon. Thus, she is expected
to prepare legal documents such as wills, contracts, leases,
etc. She also attends court or police cells proceedings among
others. It is a fast paced career that pays really well.
So how do you make the shift from an administrative
assistant to a legal secretary? It is not really hard to make
the shift. Some have crossed over without any problems. You
just need to hone your typing skills. Thus, make sure that you
type really fast with great accuracy. You also need to become
organized. Multi-tasking or doing several things at once is
expected if you want to take on a legal secretary job. So make
sure that you are organized to be able to cope with the demands
of the job. Some actually recommend taking a legal secretarial
course to familiarize oneself with the legal jargon but it is
not necessary.
